Upcoming Workshops

Upcoming in 2017:
Shibori and the Summer Breeze –
July 29 – 30th, Sat. & Sun. 10 am. – 4 pm.
The illusion of a breeze lies in the subtle beauty of noren, or Japanese split curtains. They typically appear in front of small shops or restaurants but also are used as room dividers or doorway curtains.

Using shibori manipulations in stitching, folding and binding, folding and clamping and other manipulations, participants will create patterns or motifs that speak of summer. Indigo also plays into image making and blue is a cooling hue.

Combining the two, students will create a piece that speaks to the season. All tools and fabric will be provided; however, participants may bring their own cloth choices for personal explorations. Wear or bring appropriate clothing for the dye studio, and bring small, embroidery-type scissors, dishwashing-type gloves and a bag lunch.

A $40 materials fee will be due to the instructor at start of workshop. Classes will take place in an upstairs classroom. If you are unable to use stairs, please call Sertoma at 919-996-2329 so we can make alternative arrangements.
Registration is open with Raleigh Parks and Recreation. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Do you ever teach workshops in Western North Carolina—-I’m in Macon county —

Is West Jefferson within reach for you? I gave a workshop at the Florence Thomas Art School this summer and hope to get back to the same area – at some point – probably next year.

The West Jefferson location is about four hours from my location. It sounds very interesting…..I will see what the new year brings. Thank-you
