summer shibori

Table runner

Originally uploaded by SOFennell

A family wedding is in the offing, August actually, and another opportunity to make a gift. The last 2 nieces received tablecloths. This time I thought a linen table runner and a set of matching napkins might be the thing.

I’ve just finished mokume stitching on the runner and can’t wait to get it all “scrunched” before beginning some small quick patterns on the napkins.

I hope to get it in the dye pot this weekend, but it may be Monday before it actually gets there. The weather could play a part in this as well. We’re due for much needed showers and thunderstorms.

ahhh summer. it is here for sure but today here in So Cal we received the gift of a rare July morning rain! actually had to go out and play in it. it’s still raining now 30 minutes later! such a rarity as are your shibori gifts- a great gift to treasure and more long lasting than a rare july rainstorm here.

how handsome! a linen mokume shibori runner
your niece is a lucky girl.
please post them when they’re finished.

It’s a little old-fashioned (I think, not sure), but since working with textiles, I’ve really come to appreciate those kinds of things, things like table linens which are so civilizing. They really do make a table. I got the runner scrunched, now I’m working on the napkins. It’s storming outside, so it’s a good time for needlework.

Oh! I will definitely post them when they’re all finally done!
