This is a detail of a longer piece I worked on last month while my students worked on theirs. I wanted to have something to hang in the Artspace Instructor’s show that begins today. So, it is finally complete and hanging in one of their galleries until June 5th or 6th.
It’s roughly 16 x 54 inches in size and made of a linen and rayon blend. The imagery references India and that was because the student project was based on India and I just decided to follow suit.
As usual, it was an experiment just to see what would result from combining the different techniques. Not everything worked the way I thought or hoped, but there’s always the unexpected that happens underneath the surface (of the dye). The thread stretches and sometimes loosens, others may break and those are the risks. I’m fine with that.
