Art to Wear

I went to an outdoor fashion show on Thursday night. The NSCU College of Design and College of Textiles were showing Art to Wear. The first ones on the runway were the Harajuku Dolls which referenced so much of what I’m seeing on Japanese TV, especially among the young female pop singers.

Some of the pieces talked about nature, other collections talked about recycling and composting. One that intrigued was a collection called “Reverse and Tension” that had images of angels or winged people. The last collection was “Prayers and Meditations.” These fantastic, sculptural costumes represented the designer’s own meditations. There was a lot of drama or the theatrical in a lot of which made this a lot of fun to watch.
